Beginning 7/1/10 the Senior Center will no longer have the Activity Card fee or the $1 per day fee for exercise classes.  Participants can register for classes at the Senior Center by paying a monthly fee per class. 

 

Transportation

Can't drive, but would like to visit with friends and have lunch at the Senior Center?  We can have you picked up at your home for only $1.50 each way.

Entertainment
You won't want to miss the entertainment which begins at 10:00 a.m., four days a week at the Senior Community Center. Participants will enjoy listening to music provided by Backtrackin’ on Mondays, Ken Bridges on Tuesdays, and Jack & His Jill’s on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Dance Lessons
Dance lessons are held every Friday evening from 6-7 p.m. The fee is $3 per person or free with $7 paid admission to the Friday night dances.  Adults 18 years of age and older are welcome.

Dances
Enjoy dances held every Friday, 7-10 p.m. at the Senior Center.  No partner is needed, so come and enjoy dancing to a great live combo.  Cost is $7 per person.

 

 

Birthday Parties

The third Wednesday of every month, during lunch, we honor seniors born during that month. Dessert is served to all birthday honorees.

B.L.T. (Bunko Ladies of Tulare)

B.L.T. is a group of ladies who share a similar connection. They meet at the Senior Center on the first Thursday of the month at 2 p.m.  They plan monthly events, such as going out for a movie or dinner.  Join our group.  Fee $2 per person.  Call 685-2330 for more information.

Bingo                                                       Bingo

Join in the fun at 12:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, at the Senior Community Center and play BINGO! The cost is $.25 per card, $.10 per game. Fourteen games are played. Special Games: Progressive Bingo; Four Bonus Numbers: the 2nd and last Wednesday of the month we will give away $5.00 for each bonus number called. Meet new friends and take a chance on winning! We need volunteer bingo callers!

Fun ‘N Games

Have fun playing games and meeting others with similar interests. Dominos, Bridge and other card games are scheduled daily. CARDS are played every Wednesday and Friday at noon.  Mah Jong Tiles is played every Tuesday and Friday at 1:30 p.m.  Bunko is held every 1st Thursday of the month at 2:00 p.m.

Excursions

Popular day and overnight trips are scheduled on a monthly basis. A 15-passenger van or a chartered bus will take you to museums, plays, national parks, coastal areas, casinos, and other special interest and cultural sites.   Twice a year, a trip will be offered thru “Collette Vacations”.  Call (559) 685-2330 for further information.

Down Memory Lane

Have you ever thought, "I have so many stories to tell-and wish I could write them all down, but I don’t know where to begin?" Well then, "Down Memory Lane" is the class for you. This class will help you organize your memories and write stories about them. You will be leaving a written legacy for your loved ones to cherish for many generations to come. Classes are held every Thursday from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.  Fee as of 7/1/10 $5/month

The 1st  and 3rd  Tuesdays 12:30 p.m.

Low Impact
Aerobics

Improve your flexibility, endurance and stamina by joining this specially designed fitness class for older adults.  Class meets every Tuesday at the Claude Meitzenheimer Community Center, 830 S. Blackstone St. from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.   Fee as of 7/1/10 $9/month

Yoga/Stretch & Flex

 

This yoga/stretch class is designed to improve strength, flexibility and balance.  In a quiet setting, with soft music, you will be taught how to use breathing to your advantage.  Controlling your breathing pattern helps improve your strength as well as your ability to relax.  During this class, you will balance and hold deep stretch poses while standing and sitting.  Following the active portion of the class, you will be taught relaxation techniques.  This year-around class is appropriate for seniors with slight limitations as well as the physically active.  This class is held on Mondays from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Tulare Senior Center.  Fee as of 7/1/10 $6/month

Ex-chair-cise (Thera - Band Exercise)

Improve your muscular strength, endurance, range of motion and flexibility, by using a safe resistive exerciser called THERA-BAND. The Thera-Band is made of stretchable latex rubber. This program will be conducted before lunch every Wednesday and Friday, at 10:30 a.m., at the Tulare Senior Community Center.  No Cost.  For more information call (559) 685-2330.

Senior Softball

This program offers an opportunity for recreation, exercise, and some friendly competition. Most importantly, the programs have modified rules which emphasize physical safety. So come and have some fun on the ball diamond. Three ten-week leagues will be played from March through October. This will include a 55+ league and 63+ league, which will afford an opportunity to play against some of the best players in the area!  For more information, call 685-2330.

Tulare Senior Services

Tulare Senior Services (T.S.S.), Inc. was formed in June of 1985.  It is a cooperating non-profit organization dedicated to the social, recreational and health needs of seniors, 55 and over, within the community. T.S.S. sponsors the very popular monthly newsletter that is mailed the first of every month to over 500 members. Yearly membership fee is only $10.00.  T.S.S. meetings are held every 4th Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m., at the Senior Community Center.

Tulare Adult School

The Tulare Adult School is a cooperating agency in the sponsorship of many senior citizen programs and services.
